The catholics and protestants do not differ, as I understand it, in seeing the church as "perfect" - that is, not derived of state power (the state is also "perfect", in catholic terminology, not derived from the church). Church authority and state authority are distinct jurisdictions under one God.
quote:
These jurisdictions meet indeed in the physical person, who is subject to both. But even if that person is a politician, the church's authority over him is not political but spiritual.
quote:
The Catholic prince acts within a distinct area of authority; and although the church has the right to demand certain actions of him as a baptized Catholic, he is responsible for his own actions.
quote:
There is a distinction, even in Catholic thought, between church and state - even in the Catholic state. The church's advice to the prince is pastoral. The Catholic prince's actions are not the actions of the church.
quote:
And, I think, even Catholics also recognize a distinction between the spiritual mission of the church, and the secular institutions inspired by that mission. She often provides hospitals, schools, etc., and often opens them to the community. Although a school may be strictly administrated, even by clergy, for a non-catholic to participate in them is not the same thing as being in the Catholic Church - they are institutionally distinct.
Daar zou ik graag onderbouwing voor zien.
quote:
So, I said before that, the Catholics and the Protestants have both created institutions that simply act as a neighbor. And their acts are not so much acts of an institution, as of people. A neighbor with so many hands often proves to be very helpful and important. (Leaving out what happens when things go wrong).
Natuurlijk.
